How It Works
What the 26 ATS Heuristic Checks Evaluate
The browser-based scanning engine processes your recovered resume text locally and runs 26 heuristic checks. They cover the signals that commonly affect whether a resume is easy to extract and review; the report is guidance, not a copy of any employer's private ATS:
Contact & Identity (15%)
Ensures essential communication fields are easily extractable. If contact details are missing, hidden, or poorly formatted, recruiters may not be able to reach you.
Example Finding: "Full Name Missing" or "Valid Email Missing" flags if identity fields cannot be isolated.
ATS Structure & Formatting (20%)
Checks PDF text recovery, recognizable headings, core sections, and date consistency. A standard reading order gives parsers a clearer way to map employment, projects, education, and skills.
Example Finding: "Inconsistent Date Formats" warns if date notation varies between entries.
Keywords & Skills (25%)
Evaluates the size of the skills list, role relevance, acronym clarity, and whether listed tools are supported by evidence in experience or project text.
Example Finding: "Skills Need Narrative Evidence" highlights key terms listed without experience context.
Impact & Experience (25%)
Analyzes achievement bullets for strong action verbs, quantifiable outcomes, passive phrasing, and optimal bullet lengths.
Example Finding: "Bullet Has No Measurable Evidence" notes description-style bullets lacking metric outcomes.
Content & Readability (15%)
Scans for first-person pronouns, generic buzzwords, and vague placeholder phrasing (such as "etc." or "responsible for") that degrade the professional quality of your resume.
Example Finding: "Generic Buzzwords Detected" highlights phrases like "results-driven team player" that lack factual context.
Understanding Your ATS Readiness Score
The score provided by our browser-based scanner is a guide to help you identify parsing risks. It is not an official recruiter evaluation, nor does it guarantee an interview. A high score indicates that your document uses a standard layout, logical reading order, and clear content structures that are easiest for modern applicant tracking systems to parse and index.
For uploaded PDFs, the scanner also calculates a PDF Parse Recovery Ratio. This compares the text structure extracted by the browser's parser with the expected ground truth content. If the recovery ratio is low, it suggests the original PDF contains styling elements, decorative tables, or complex columns that make it difficult for parsing engines to read text in the intended order.
