Classic ATS Resume Template

The Classic ATS template is a traditional serif, single-column resume layout built around the formatting practices most commonly recommended for applicant tracking systems: readable typography, standard section headings, and a simple top-to-bottom structure.

The resume above uses illustrative sample content. Replace every name, employer, date, metric, and link with details you can verify before sending an application.

Who should use this template

The Classic ATS template suits corporate and traditional companies, public-sector and enterprise roles, and candidates applying through legacy or strict applicant tracking systems that parse best from a straightforward one-column layout.

How to tailor this template

Start with a two-line summary that names the target role and the work you do best. Keep the experience section in reverse-chronological order, give recent roles the most detail, and turn each bullet into an action plus a result you can verify. Use the standard section labels as written, and remove any section that would otherwise be empty.

ATS formatting characteristics

  • Single-column layout that reads top to bottom for reliable parsing.
  • Serif typeface and clear visual hierarchy for readability.
  • Standard section headings such as Summary, Experience, Education, and Skills.
  • Conservative styling that avoids graphics, tables, and icons that can confuse parsers.

The ATS Readiness Score is a guidance tool and does not guarantee that a resume will pass every employer's applicant tracking system or receive an interview.
