Start with reading order
Use a conventional single-column format when you do not know how an employer processes uploaded files. Put the most relevant evidence near the top.
Match the content volume
A compact one-page layout helps only when the text remains readable. Use a two-page format when seniority, research, or leadership evidence needs space.
Check the exported file
Open the final PDF, select its text, confirm links, and review the extracted order. A template cannot compensate for missing or unsupported content.
What “ATS-friendly” does and does not mean
ATS-friendly means the document uses choices that generally reduce extraction risk: normal text, recognizable headings, consistent dates, and a clear reading order. It does not mean every employer uses the same parser, and it cannot guarantee ranking, an interview, or acceptance by every system.

Which ATS resume template is the safest default?
Classic ATS is the most conservative general-purpose option because it uses one column, standard headings, and a simple chronological flow. The best choice still depends on your content and the employer’s requested format.
Are two-page resumes compatible with ATS software?
Page count alone does not determine whether text can be extracted. A readable two-page resume can be more useful than an overcrowded one-page document, especially for senior, research, or leadership candidates.
Does using one of these templates guarantee an ATS pass?
No. Applicant tracking systems and employer workflows differ. The templates provide a readable structure; your qualifications, job relevance, file quality, and the employer’s process still matter.
